Unit Data

The Dark Archon has no weapon, no hit points, and no armor. Its entire existence is a cocoon of psionic force — once that shield fails, both souls within are extinguished permanently.

350 Shields
0 Hit Points
0 Attack DMG
200 Max Energy
250 Minerals
200 Vespene
2 Supply
100 Build Time

The 0 HP stat is not a gap in the data — it is the data. The Dark Archon is the only unit in the game that exists entirely as shields. This makes it uniquely vulnerable to shield-bypassing mechanics and uniquely immune to conventional damage mitigation.

Abilities

Three abilities. No weapons. The Dark Archon doesn't fight your army — it becomes your army, unravels enemy spellcasters, and locks entire forces in psionic stasis.

100 ENERGY
Mind Control
⌨ Hotkey: M

Permanently converts any enemy unit — including heroes, Zerg organisms, and unique units — to your control. The Dark Archon expends all remaining energy. The target retains all abilities. At high level, a stolen Defiler or Queen was treated as a game-deciding event.

150 ENERGY
Maelstrom
⌨ Hotkey: E

Immobilizes all biological units in an area for 10 seconds. They cannot move, attack, cast, or cloak. The core combo: Maelstrom a Zerg pack, then follow with Psionic Storm. Against Zerg armies heavy on Zerglings and Hydralisks, this is existential.

75 ENERGY
Feedback
⌨ Hotkey: F

Drains all energy from a target spellcaster, dealing equal damage. A fully charged Ghost, Science Vessel, or Defiler dies instantly. Against energy-reliant compositions, a single Feedback can swing a fight. Micro expression of this skill separates tiers at top level.

The Dark Confluence

The Protoss of Aiur perfected the Archon as a weapon of last resort: two High Templar merging into a torrent of psychic fire. Among the Dark Templar — exiled for ten thousand years on Shakuras, shaping a different communion with the Void — the same act yielded something far stranger.

Where the High Templar burned outward, the Dark Archon collapsed inward. The Void's energies curled into a psionic singularity: no body, no weapon, no armor beyond a cocoon of pure will. What remained was absolute dominion over the minds of lesser organisms.

The two Dark Templar who merge are not destroyed — they are subsumed. Their voices persist within the confluence, overlapping and dissonant. Witnesses describe hearing two distinct tones when a Dark Archon speaks — a chord that unsettles biological minds even at range. This is not a side effect. It is a weapon.

// Tactical Assessment

Threat by Race

Effectiveness varies sharply by opponent composition. Against biological armies it is a terror. Against mechanical forces, Maelstrom and Feedback are largely wasted — Mind Control is the only viable option.

The ultimate use: Mind Control a Defiler. A stolen Defiler — capable of Plague, Dark Swarm, and Consume — reversed entire KeSPA matches. At the peak of Brood War competitive play, a single successful Mind Control was not a tactical advantage. It was a concession trigger.
